German King Tiger Production Turret With 150mm of frontal armor and 80mm on its sides the King Tiger was far from a welcome sight for hostile troops; this was rather exacerbated by the awe-inspiring L/71 88mm main gun. This plastic model captures the production turreted King Tiger in all its glory with masterful depiction of the hull and its weld lines. The opening turret escape hatch allows admiration of the interior and gun breech even after completion of the kit.

The first 50 examples were equipped with a turret designed by Porsche while mass produced tanks featured an improved turret designed by Henschel. Many of these formidable tanks were involved in the German offensive through the Ardennes in December 1944.

About the German Tiger I Early Production It was the end of 1942 when a German heavy tank with extra thick armor and a powerful main gun first appeared on the North African front. The new tank, long-desired by the German soldiers who had hard-fought battles against the allies, became known as the Tiger I Ausf. E. Development of the Tiger I began at the end of May 1941. The German Army Weapons Branch ordered the Henschel firm to vie with Porsche in producing a prototype.
